Another successful sales event for Amazon, the ecommerce giant, occurred on October 8th and 9th. Amazon Prime Big Deals Day 2024 was a 48-hour event that kicked off the holiday shopping season, offering Prime members massive discounts across various categories, including electronics, home goods, toys, beauty, and apparel. The event showcased some of Amazon’s lowest prices of the year and introduced new deals as frequently as every five minutes, ensuring shoppers had plenty of options.

Record-Breaking Participation & Savings

Amazon announced that the 2024 Prime Big Deal Days was its largest October shopping event, with more Prime members participating than last year. Although the company has not disclosed the total sales revenue, it revealed that Prime members worldwide saved over $1B across millions of deals. Seasonal merchandise and holiday gifts were among the most popular items, aligning with early holiday shopping trends. Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores, noted the event’s strong performance:

“Our 2024 Prime Big Deal Days marked a strong start to the holiday shopping season, with record-breaking sales and participation from Prime members worldwide.”

Amazon Prime Big Deals Say 2024 Sales Performance

Sales data from Momentum Commerce, which tracks ecommerce performance for brands on Amazon, showed that some sellers experienced a 41% YoY sales growth during the event. However, despite this progress, overall U.S. online retail sales declined, indicating mixed results across the broader market. Notably, the second day of Big Deal Days saw sales just 9% lower than the first day, reflecting a narrowing gap compared to last year’s event, where the drop-off between days was 10%.

When comparing October Prime Big Deal Days with the July 2024 Prime Day event, October sales were about 32% lower. However, this gap has closed significantly over the years, as prior October events saw sales levels 50% below the summer Prime Day.

Top Deals & Categories

The event featured discounts across several top brands and product categories. Electronics, home appliances, toys, and beauty products saw some of the top savings. Among the standout deals were savings of up to 36% on Dyson products and 32% on Apple AirPods Pro 2. Home goods also saw significant discounts, such as up to 63% off Roborock robot vacuums and 34% off KitchenAid stand mixers.

Fashion and beauty had compelling offers, including up to 65% off Levi’s denim, 30% off Kiehl’s skincare products, and 30% off select Clinique makeup. For parents and holiday shoppers, popular toy brands like Barbie, LEGO, and Hot Wheels offered up to 37% in savings.

Regional & Time Differences in Sales Performance

Salesforce reported that while global sales growth for retailers outside of Amazon remained flat, there were notable regional variations. In North America, U.S. online retailers experienced a 5% decline in YoY sales during the event, contracting with a 9% growth in European online sales.

Interestingly, the sales spike during Prime Big Deal Days occurred most prominently in the evenings, a shift from the traditional morning peaks in previous events. This change reflects evolving consumer shopping behaviors and suggests that Amazon’s strategy of rolling out deals throughout the day may be successfully capturing the attention of evening shoppers.

Final Thoughts

Amazon Prime Big Deal Days 2024 proved to be a record-breaking event for the company, setting the stage for a competitive holiday shopping season. The event’s impressive participation and diverse deals contributed to its success, although external factors like economic uncertainty and regional weather events may have tempered the broader retail landscape’s performance. As Amazon continues to innovate and expand its offerings, Prime members can anticipate more savings and exclusive deals in the coming months.

For sellers aiming to make the most of future high-traffic periods, managing cash flow effectively is essential, especially now that Amazon Lending has come to an end. Clearco provides a solution with its Invoice Funding, offering ecommerce businesses the working capital needed to cover inventory, marketing, and logistic costs. This non-dilutive funding option enables sellers to prepare for and optimize sales during peak shopping events like Amazon Big Deal Days.
